Adult Recruitment

Airdrie and Coatbridge is always on the look out for new members of staff (18+) to assist in the running of our unit. Whether you are previous member of any armed forces or have no experience you can help. TS Enterprise is a friendly unit and anyone wishing to join will be made to feel very welcome. You have the option of joining as a Civilian Instructor or as a uniformed member of staff

Civilian Instructors

Civilian Instructors is a role ideally suited to someone who can contribute a specialist skill to the unit e.g. Boating qualifications, Communications etc.. but do not wish to enrol as a fully uniformed member of staff. All we ask is that you give up one evening a week with the odd weekend throughout the year.

Uniformed Staff

Uniformed Staff are the back-bone of every unit, district & area within the Sea Cadet Corps. They are responsible for the training of cadets within the Corps. You do not require any specialised skills but training is offered at every level of the Corp from your unit all the way up to National courses organised at Sea Cadet Corps training centres throughout the country. You will initially join as a Civilian Instructor and will be required to go through an enhanced criminal records check as well as being interviewed by our Commanding Officer & a District Officer. Once this has been done you will rate up to Trainee Instructor for a minimum of 9 months at which point you will be interviewed to rate up to Probationary Petty Officer (SCC). You will be required to attend a Sea Cadet Instructors Qualifying course at one of our National Training Centres, obtain a First Aid qualification as well as receive training and assessment in Instructional Methods. On successful completion of these you will then be promoted to the rate of Petty Officer (SCC).

What you will do

On a day to day basis the main roll of our staff is to train the cadets in both their general syllabus and specialised subjects. You may also be asked to take on a role within the unit, such as Training Officer, Divisional Officer etc..

Payment

The Sea Cadet Corps is a voluntary organisation and so you do not get paid for routine Cadet nights and the majority of events. However, if you attend training courses or certain camps, you will be paid by the Royal Navy; also your travel costs may be reimbursed. This applies to all members of staff other than civilian instructors

How to Join

If you are interested in joining then please speak to our Commanding Officer. You will then be asked to attend an informal interview with the Commanding Officer of the unit at a time that suits. Contact details can be found here.
